El Karama Lodge
El Karama Lodge is an intimate, award-winning lodge specialising in family safaris and sustainable travel. Built, owned and operated by Murray and Sophie Grant, the lodge has just eight beautifully crafted cottages overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro river. Known for its beauty, authenticity and commitment to high value, low-impact tourism in the region, this lodge is perfect for families, small groups and exclusive use.
This lodge directly contributes revenue to the conservation goals of the El Karama Wildlife Conservancy through daily conservation fees. The average length of stay here is 4-5 nights.
The lodge was built for privacy and comfort; each cottage was created using natural materials and designed to blend subtly into the surroundings. All are ensuite with hot showers, flushing toilets and private verandas for relaxation. The design and architecture is testament to this family’s commitment to creativity and the long term conservation of this unique eco system. The lodge is exclusively solar-powered both for electricity and water heating and its operations are accredited for environmental sustainability. Guests can enjoy a chlorine/salt free, swimming pool in the heart of the lodge and a games areas with pingpong, yoga mats and boules. There is also a small Bush Spa to cater for massages and beauty treatments and an organic, drip-fed shamba for farm to fork food experiences.
Guests have access to all 15,000 acres of this exceptional private conservancy enjoying dams, riverine habitat, escarpments, acacia woodland and savannah. The lodge team offers a wide roster of activities including guided walking experiences, game drives, night drives, rock hide sleep outs and bush meals, horse riding, fly camping, fishing, farm and garden visits, ranger walks and a tailor-made Bush School for Kids. This team prides itself on warm, knowledgable and local hosting with a strong attention to detail. Kiota House
Perched above the tree-lined valley of the Ewaso Nyiro River with magnificent views all the way to Mount Kenya is Kiota House. The house was originally built as the ultimate dream home by an architect and his landscape artist wife and Don Young took over the care of their beloved home and gardens after they moved away. Don and his wife Celestina have now restored the house and gardens and decorated the rooms with Don’s own art collection and furniture designs.
Kiota House has six bedrooms and five bathrooms. Each of the guest rooms is unique, with wonderful views of the river valley below or the spectacular gardens surrounding the house. Kiota House’s modern conveniences include your laundry expertly done every day, Wi-Fi, flat- screen TV and DVD player. Guests also have access to the 15,000 acres of El Karama Wildlife Conservancy during their stay.
